Gaborone, Botswana
Software Engineering and DevOps Lead
I build production software in Go and PHP, and I run the estate it sits on. Since 2023 I have worked at a Botswana-based company providing KYC and AML compliance software, physical and electronic document management, application hosting, disaster recovery and backups.
I lead engineering and operations for a multi-tenant compliance platform. The product is PHP and Laravel. The services and tooling around it are Go.
Most of the work is performance and reliability under load. A missing index was making every API write scan a full audit table, pulling far more data through the buffer pool than it could hold. Adding it took client API writes from 300 seconds, where they were hitting the web server timeout, to consistently sub-second.
I also run the estate it sits on: VMware ESXi hosts and Linux virtual machines, patched, backed up and restored. The monitoring and alerting stack was built in-house from nothing, with the database exporter scoped so it cannot read customer data.

A group buying and container import app for a Botswana business, tracking shared shipping containers from order to delivery.

Tracks TV shows across web, mobile and browser extension clients, syncing watch progress with TMDB, AniList and MyDramaList.

An offline-first Android app for finding, revealing and copying the numbers people need in a hurry: account numbers, plates, meter readings and policy numbers.

Tracks grocery prices per store branch in Botswana, keeps a dated price history and runs an in-store shopping basket with VAT aware totals.

An interface design for running a community society in Botswana: monthly contributions, arrears, payments and a society ledger, in English and Setswana. In the design phase, with no backend behind it.

Work software, built for the internal team at a Botswana-based KYC and AML compliance provider: an operations console for monitoring and deploying eKYC platform environments across customer infrastructure.
